Working within the tight footprint of this Randwick home, the design focused as much on making the spaces work harder as it did on bringing colour and personality into the interiors. Careful spatial planning allowed us to rethink a number of key rooms, improving their functionality and creating a much stronger sense of flow without needing to increase the footprint.
In the kitchen, an awkward U-shaped layout was reworked into a galley configuration, creating a more generous and efficient workspace while opening up the connection to the dining area. A built-in banquette makes the most of the available space and creates an inviting everyday hub for the family.
The bathroom was similarly reconsidered to improve both its function and outlook. The bath was relocated beneath the window, allowing for a substantially larger vanity and enabling the toilet to be tucked discreetly away rather than sitting in direct view on entry.
One of the biggest transformations was the formal living room. Previously an underused space with no real focal point, it was reconfigured around a new stone-clad fireplace, with full-height bookshelves creating warmth, purpose and a reason for the family to use the room.
Against this more resolved spatial framework, a warm and playful palette brings the house to life. Soft greens, dusty pinks and terracotta sit alongside natural timber, expressive stone, art, books and collected objects. Thoughtful joinery provides storage and display throughout while introducing colour in a considered way.
The result is a home that feels bright, relaxed and distinctly personal, one where every square metre has been carefully considered, but nothing feels overly designed.

Josie has created a joyous home that we absolutely love spending time in. Her use of colour and design ideas have transformed our house into a beautiful and tranquil space while at the same time being very functional. The brief was to create a space that picked up the colours in an artwork we purchased years ago by Oliver Watts, of Australian scrubland and eucalyptus trees. Josie absolutely nailed it with her colour, wood and finish choices. I loved working with Josie on the project. She has that perfect balance of having clear artistic vision, providing confidence to make bold decisions while also being very collaborative in her approach. I am so happy we found Josie.
